the inside Submariner Tour is back
Under COVID Phase 2 regulations, we developed a new innovative tour of the exterior compound area called the X-Ray tour which augmented our old Fish-Eye tour with a number of enhanced and unique features. The Province of Ontario declared our area a Phase 3 zone while we were busy painting HMCS Ojibwa between July 13th and 25th. Now the painting of the submarine is complete, we can move on to offer tours inside HMCS Ojibwa.
INSIDE TOUR HAS A COVID LOOK
Inside tours will differ from the previous experience. Visitors will spend half the time inside the submarine and half the time outside utilizing banners with images of the smaller interior spaces inside where social distancing is impossible. All visitors must use hand sanitizer before putting on gloves and a face mask (which we provide) before entering the compound.
New Restrictions Regarding Young Children
New restrictions on the amount of time we can spend in any one space have led us to the conclusion (backed up by trial runs) that tours of the interior must be confined to those twelve years old and up .
Younger children were not able to maintain social distancing over the arc of the tour and constant reminders reduced the content of the tour and impacted the experience of others in the group. Children eight and over are welcome on our X-Ray tour of the exterior but they will not be permitted to wander and must respect social distancing. Children under eight are not permitted in the compound and we suggest they investigate the charming ‘Fairy Village’ in the park which overlooks the beach. [Go back up the hill, cross over the main street and continue east on Pitt St. and turn right at Erieus - the next block.] The fairy houses are located around the flower garden on the slope close to Brock Street. Make this a feature for your little ones by having them ‘write’ a letter to the fairies to leave in the fairy mailbox. |
Pre-Booking Strongly Recommended
We strongly recommend that you pre-book using our on-line service to ensure that the members of your family or social bubble can all be on the same tour (within the size limits). Payment is not made until you arrive at the site Please note that tours of the inside are restricted to five people to allow for social distancing.
